At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we proudly offer speech therapy services to Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) patients. We understand the unique challenges that veterans may face with communication, swallowing, and cognitive-communication issues, and our skilled speech therapists are here to help you improve your quality of life. Whether you have a Gold Card or White Card, we ensure that eligible DVA patients can access high-quality speech therapy services with no out-of-pocket costs.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) offers a range of healthcare services to veterans who have served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). If you are a veteran holding a Gold Card or White Card, you may be eligible for speech therapy services that are fully covered by DVA, as long as they are related to your service or chronic condition. At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we provide expert speech therapy services to support veterans in managing a variety of conditions related to communication and swallowing.
Gold Card: Veterans with a Gold Card are eligible for comprehensive healthcare benefits, including speech therapy services, without out-of-pocket expenses. This includes veterans with service-related conditions.
White Card: The White Card is issued to veterans with a non-service-related condition that requires healthcare services, including speech therapy. However, coverage is provided for specific conditions as determined by DVA, and the number of sessions may be limited based on the approved condition.
At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we offer speech therapy services for both Gold Card and White Cardholders, ensuring that veterans receive the support they need to address speech, swallowing, and communication difficulties.
To access speech therapy services under DVA, you will need:
GP Referral: A GP referral is required to initiate treatment under DVA. Your GP will assess your health condition and determine if speech therapy is necessary. Once referred, you can book your sessions with us.
DVA Referral: If you have a Gold Card or White Card, DVA will cover the cost of your speech therapy sessions for eligible conditions. Your GP will submit the referral to DVA, and we will coordinate directly with DVA to ensure that your care is fully covered.
Once you have obtained a GP referral for speech therapy, the process generally follows these steps:
Initial Assessment: The first session involves a comprehensive assessment where our speech therapist will evaluate your communication, swallowing, and cognitive abilities. We will discuss your specific challenges, needs, and goals to create a personalized treatment plan.
Personalized Speech Therapy Plan: Based on your assessment, a tailored speech therapy plan will be developed to address your specific challenges, such as improving communication, swallowing difficulties, or cognitive-communication issues.
Ongoing Sessions: The number of speech therapy sessions you require will depend on your condition and progress. For Gold Card holders, treatment is generally ongoing without restrictions, while White Card holders may be eligible for a set number of sessions depending on their condition.
Review and Adjustments: Your speech therapist will review your progress regularly and make necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Our goal is to help you improve your speech, swallowing, and communication abilities in a way that enhances your overall well-being.
At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we are pleased to offer no out-of-pocket costs for all DVA patients. Whether you have a Gold Card or White Card, your speech therapy sessions will be fully covered by DVA, provided the service is related to your approved condition. We aim to provide the best care without any financial burden for veterans.

Yes, if you have a White Card, you may still be eligible for speech therapy services. However, eligibility depends on your specific condition, and the number of sessions will be determined by DVA approval.
The number of speech therapy sessions available depends on your health condition and progress. Gold Card holders typically have unlimited access to services, while White Card holders may be eligible for a set number of sessions based on DVA-approved conditions.
Your first session will involve an initial assessment of your speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive abilities. Based on this evaluation, we will design a personalized therapy plan to address your unique needs.
