PALMS PHYSIOTHERAPY & ALLIED HEALTH
At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we provide physiotherapy for older adults who may need support with mobility, balance, strength, walking, falls prevention, rehabilitation, pain, deconditioning, or maintaining independence in everyday life. Our physiotherapists work with older adults across a wide range of physical, neurological, musculoskeletal, chronic health, disability-related, and age-related presentations.
Our approach is individualised, practical, and focused on helping each person function as safely and confidently as possible in daily life. Depending on the person’s needs, physiotherapy may focus on walking, transfers, strength, physical confidence, balance, rehabilitation, endurance, mobility aid use, or strategies to support day-to-day function at home and in the community.
We offer physiotherapy for older adults in clinic, through mobile services, and via telehealth where appropriate.
We are able to provide physiotherapy services for older adults accessing support through the Support at Home program. This is the current government-funded in-home aged care program that replaced the former Home Care Package program from 1 November 2025.
Many people still refer to this funding as a Home Care Package, and families may continue to use that wording when discussing services. We understand this transition and can assist older adults who are receiving aged care support at home and want physiotherapy linked to their goals, function, mobility, and independence.
Where approved and arranged, we can invoice the client’s provider directly for physiotherapy services. This may include support delivered in the home, in clinic, or in other appropriate settings depending on the person’s needs, goals, service approval, and provider arrangements.
If you are unsure whether physiotherapy can be accessed through your current aged care funding, our team can discuss the available service options and what information may be needed from your provider or care coordinator.
Physiotherapy for older adults focuses on movement, mobility, strength, balance, rehabilitation, and physical function in later life. It may be helpful for people experiencing reduced walking ability, falls risk, weakness, joint stiffness, pain, deconditioning, recovery after illness or surgery, or difficulty managing everyday physical tasks.
Support is tailored to the individual and may range from short-term rehabilitation through to ongoing therapy aimed at maintaining mobility, confidence, and independence.
Physiotherapy may assist with:
mobility and walking
balance and falls prevention
strength and endurance
transfers and general movement confidence

physical deconditioning
joint stiffness and reduced flexibility
pain affecting movement and daily activities
posture and functional movement patterns
mobility aid recommendations and safe use where appropriate
maintaining independence with everyday physical tasks
support for home and community participation
Therapy is always tailored to the person’s presentation, goals, tolerance, and broader medical context.

reduced mobility or walking confidence
recent falls or increased falls risk
weakness or deconditioning
recovery after hospitalisation
post-surgical rehabilitation
arthritis and joint-related limitations
neurological conditions
chronic health conditions affecting physical function

The role of physiotherapy depends on the person and may change over time as their needs, environment, health, and goals change.
At Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we focus on goals that matter in everyday life. For some people, that may mean improving walking tolerance, getting in and out of a chair more easily, reducing falls risk, building strength after illness, or feeling more confident moving around at home. For others, it may involve maintaining mobility, supporting community access, or helping them stay active and independent for as long as possible.
Our physiotherapy approach is designed to be relevant, realistic, and aligned with the person’s current function and priorities.
Your physiotherapy appointment will usually begin with a discussion about current concerns, physical function, medical history, mobility, falls history, home environment, and goals. Your physiotherapist may assess walking, balance, strength, transfers, endurance, joint movement, pain behaviour, and the way physical concerns are affecting everyday tasks.
Treatment recommendations are tailored to the individual and may include exercise-based rehabilitation, balance training, mobility practice, walking support, transfer training, education, activity modification, and practical strategies to support safety and function between sessions.
Our goal is not simply to work on isolated exercises. We focus on helping older adults maintain or improve function in real-life settings. Depending on the person’s needs, this may include support for:
getting in and out of bed or chairs
managing stairs and uneven surfaces
walking safely at home and in the community
improving balance and reducing falls risk
building strength for daily tasks
returning home after illness, injury, or hospitalisation
maintaining mobility and confidence
participating in home, family, and community life
supporting safe movement with or without mobility aids
We aim to provide physiotherapy for older adults in a professional, respectful, and supportive environment. Our clinics in Malaga and Noranda provide access to allied health spaces suited to assessment, rehabilitation, and movement-based therapy.
Depending on the person’s needs and the suitability of the service, physiotherapy may also be available through mobile services or telehealth.
If you or a family member are looking for support with mobility, balance, walking, rehabilitation, falls prevention, strength, or everyday function, contact Palms Physiotherapy & Allied Health to discuss whether physiotherapy for older adults may be appropriate.
