Angelman Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system and is caused by a deletion or mutation of the UBE3A gene on chromosome 15. Symptoms of Angelman Syndrome can vary, but they typically include:
Developmental Delays: Delays in reaching developmental milestones, particularly in speech and motor skills.
Speech Impairments: Little or no verbal communication, with some individuals using alternative communication methods.
Movement and Balance Issues: Ataxia (lack of muscle coordination), tremors, and jerky movements.
Seizures: Many individuals with Angelman Syndrome experience seizures, which may require medical management.
Happy and Excitable Behavior: Characteristic behaviors such as frequent laughter, smiling, and an upbeat demeanor.
Sleep Disorders: Many individuals have difficulty with sleep, leading to disrupted sleep patterns.

Angelman Syndrome is caused by a deletion or mutation of the UBE3A gene, which is important for normal brain development. This genetic change disrupts the production of a protein critical for regulating neuronal function.
Diagnosis typically involves a clinical evaluation of developmental history and symptoms, followed by genetic testing to identify mutations or deletions in the UBE3A gene.
Currently, there is no cure for Angelman Syndrome. However, our team can work with you to develop a personalized management plan aimed at alleviating symptoms and enhancing quality of life.
A combination of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and behavioral interventions can be effective in managing symptoms and promoting development in individuals with Angelman Syndrome.
